Weekly Update - 1.23.22

Good evening and welcome to our Weekend Update.

This week, we have surpassed the Biden administration’s one-year anniversary in office. And the numbers don’t lie; his administration has been a disaster for hardworking American families.

There are six million Americans unemployed, with ten million unfilled jobs. Biden’s policies incentivize American workers to stay on the sideline rather than join the workforce. Unfilled jobs, inflation, empty grocery store shelves, high gas prices, food prices out-of-control… American families are paying more directly due to the horrific policies of the Biden administration.

Here is the report card:

  • Highest inflation in 40 years
  • Low workforce participation
  • Border crisis
  • Emboldened our adversaries
  • Afghanistan withdrawal disaster
  • Weak Covid response
  • Attempt to federalize elections
  • Big government, budget-busting spending bills
  • Made us dependent on foreign energy sources again

If you were grading Joe Biden and the Democrats, you would have to give them an F.

Weekly Update - 1.16.21

Good afternoon and welcome to our Weekend Update.

Yesterday, I attended the Republican Party of Pennsylvania’s Central Caucus meeting. They had a full schedule working to interview candidates for U.S. Senate, governor, and lieutenant governor. There are dozens of qualified Republican candidates for these offices, and it is critical to our nation's future that we win these races. (Pictured below with Berks County GOP Chair Clay Breece, U.S. Senate candidate David McCormick, and Dean Klopp)

The Biden administration’s failing policy agenda is killing our nation’s economy… inflation is out-of-control, prices are rising, worker shortages, Covid-19 infections are increasing, and our borders are open. Every time you think it can’t get worse, it does. Biden’s policy agenda continues to veer left, and his response to these failures is to double down and continue to go even farther left.

Weekly Update - 1.9.22

Good afternoon and welcome to our Weekend Update.

We hope that everyone is enjoying the winter weather and is safe and healthy. It seems appropriate that the cold weather and snow have returned in time for the annual Pennsylvania Farm Show. After being canceled last year, I was pleased to join State Treasurer Stacy Garrity and colleagues Congressmen G.T. Thompson and Fred Keller, Pennsylvania Ag Chair Mike Firestine, U.S. Senate candidate Dave McCormick and many of our friends in Harrisburg today.

Weekly Update - 12.19.21

Good evening and welcome to our Weekend Update and the last update of the year.

From our family to yours, we want to wish you a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year.

This Christmas season, we can all do something great for our nation, the commonwealth, and our small businesses by shopping locally. Small businesses are the backbone of our communities, and our district is home to so many great ones. Click here to read an article about my visit in the Times News.

Weekly Update - 12.12.21

Good afternoon and welcome to our Weekend Update.

This week, we observed the 80th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, drawing America into World War II. We remember those brave veterans and survivors of the attack in Hawaii and honor all the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice on December 7, 1941.

America went on to show the world that good defeats evil, freedom conquers oppression, and individual rights overwhelm despotic absolutism. We as Americans need to continue to show this example to the world. God bless America!

This Christmas season, Shelley and I have enjoyed spending time with so many of you at various events across the district. Last evening, Shelley and I stopped by the home of some great Americans, Rick and Donna Lee Merritt. They are passionate about putting America First and tremendous supporters. We greatly enjoyed their party and their beautifully decorated home. (Shelley and I pictured below with Rick and Donna Lee Merritt)

Weekly Update - 12.5.21

Good afternoon and welcome to our Weekend Update.

Before we begin, I want to pause to remember Bob Dole, a patriot/WWII hero who was injured in battle/Senate Majority Leader/presidential nominee who passed early this morning. Senator Dole was a passionate public servant who cared deeply about our nation. Shelley and I send our heartfelt prayers to the Dole family. (Senator Dole pictured below receiving the Congressional Gold Medal in 2018.)

As community celebrations continue throughout the Christmas and Holiday season, we attended the Dallas annual Christmas tree lighting. There were over 400 in attendance with long lines for a very jolly Santa Claus. A special thanks to Brenda Pugh for her work and leadership. Santa Clause, who greeted over 100 kids, did look mysteriously like Alan Pugh.. but hey even Santa needs a helping hand on occasion.

Weekly Update - 11.28.21

Good afternoon and welcome to our Weekend Update.

First, on behalf of Shelley, our family and I, we hope each one of you had a happy and healthy Thanksgiving. As we gathered with loved ones this holiday weekend, I would ask that you remember to give thanks and pray for our military, who are away from home protecting and preserving our country and freedom around the world.

We were thankful to spend the week in the 9th Congressional District. Earlier this week, I enjoyed spending time at Panther Valley School reading to pre-k children and hearing from administration officials. It is critical our children receive a quality education, and parents’ voices continue to be heard.

Weekly Update - 11.21.21

Good afternoon and welcome to our Weekend Update.

Before I begin, I want to wish you and your family a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving. It is important to take a moment and reflect on how fortunate we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world.

While we are thankful, families can’t help but notice that the price we are paying for our annual holiday, the food, fuel, travel, etc., are all much higher than it has been in many, many years. That is absolutely a result of the horrific policies implemented by the Biden administration and the Democrat Congressional majorities. Inflation is at a 30-year high. The price of gasoline is up 61% from a year ago.

Weekly Update - 11.14.21

Good afternoon and welcome to our Weekend Update.

On Veterans Day, we paused to remember all those who have served our nation in the military. We live in a free and prosperous society in the United States because of our veterans. During my time in Congress, I have and will continue to ensure our veterans receive the respect, care, and dignity they have earned.

Shelley and I were proud to attend the Carbon County Veterans Day Parade in Jim Thorpe last weekend. (Shelley and I pictured below.)

On Veterans Day, I had the honor of speaking with the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 131 in Berks County. We have over 48,000 veterans in the 9thDistrict, and we are forever indebted to them for their sacrifice and service.
