Good afternoon, and welcome to our Weekend Update.

Twenty-five years ago, the September 11th attacks changed our country and our world forever. Many Americans still bear scars from that day, both physical and psychological.

A few days after the attacks, I went to Lower Manhattan to deliver mobility scooters to first responders who were on their feet for days. While the sense of loss was overwhelming, the support and patriotism displayed by all in New York City and in communities across the nation inspired hope in all of us.

On Friday, we marked the 25th anniversary of September 11th, Americans must come together to rededicate ourselves to the values that make the United States the greatest country in the world and remain vigilant to all threats to our Republic. President Donald J. Trump is taking decisive action to end Iran’s 47-year reign of terror and ensure they never obtain a nuclear weapon. The United States will continue to use strength to ensure that the Iranian regime cannot rebuild its nuclear capabilities or support terrorism across the region.

At home, President Trump is cutting taxes and regulations while expanding domestic energy production. We will continue growing our economy, strengthening American manufacturing, unleashing Pennsylvania and American energy, and making it easier for businesses to invest, create jobs and succeed. President Trump has been clear: the days of allowing our trading partners to take advantage of American workers, farmers, and manufacturers are over.

U.S. Department of Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Office of the U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer negotiated in good faith with Canada right up to the 11th hour. Instead of addressing longstanding trade barriers and reaching a fair, reciprocal agreement, Canadian negotiators walked away.

The Trump administration is right to demand a level playing field. Canada has restricted American autos and maintained protectionist barriers against our dairy farmers and other U.S. exports. We should expect the same fair treatment from Canada that they expect from us.

Senator John Fetterman has shown courage by putting his country over his party on common-sense issues. Despite still voting overwhelmingly with Democrats, he has resisted radical policies like boys playing in girls' sports and open borders.

Democrat leadership is ostracizing him over these common-sense positions. Meanwhile, the same Democrat leadership refuses to denounce Hasan Piker, who has said that America deserved 9/11.

Democrat leadership increasingly favors a different approach: higher taxes, greater regulation, and more federal control over our economy and our daily lives.

It was a great time in Dallas for the Republican Midterm Convention, connecting with so many patriots from Pennsylvania and across the country. We heard from an outstanding lineup of speakers, with Pennsylvania taking center stage throughout the evening.

Pennsylvania was well represented, including remarks from Congressman Rob Bresnahan, while Senator Dave McCormick spoke and highlighted the U.S. Steel deal that we worked with President Trump to help secure, protecting an iconic Pennsylvania company and supporting steelmaking jobs and investment in the Commonwealth.

President Trump capped off the first night by highlighting the accomplishments of his first two years back in office, securing the border, cutting taxes and advancing American energy, and laying out the stakes of the midterm elections. The choice is clear between our plan to grow the economy, strengthen American industry and build on those accomplishments, and the socialist policies increasingly embraced by the Democratic Party. The building was bursting with tremendous energy and enthusiasm here as we come together to work toward a stronger, safer and more prosperous America.

Day two in Dallas for the Republican National Convention was a great one. We kicked things off with the Pennsylvania delegation breakfast, where PAGOP Chairman Greg Rothman introduced me and my fellow members of Congress from Pennsylvania including GT Thompson, Scott Perry, Lloyd Smucker, John Joyce and Ryan Mackenzie as we addressed Republicans from across the Commonwealth. We also heard from Vice President JD Vance, who laid out a path for for victory in November.

From there, it was another full day at the convention, with speakers discussing the issues at stake in this election and the work ahead. The day focused on growing the economy, tax relief for working families, lowering prescription drug costs, border security and creating more opportunities for American workers and small businesses.

Later, Vice President JD Vance took the convention stage for his address, followed by President Trump, who closed out the convention with remarks highlighting the administration’s record and the stakes heading into November.

Throughout these two days in Dallas, Republicans have emphasized building on the constructive policies enacted over the past two years and mobilizing voters ahead of November’s midterm elections.

Hasan Piker:
“America deserved 9/11.”

“Like we totally brought it on ourselves.”

Abdul El-Sayed:
“9/11 scarred our country in profound ways, but what we did after 9/11 scarred millions of other people.”

“When we talk about 9/11, we often fail to center them.”

These are just a few examples of what Hasan Piker and Abdul El-Sayed have said about 9/11 and tried to hide from social media. El-Sayed has even gone as far as saying the attacks were carried out “in the name of my faith.”

Every American, including the so-called socialists, should ask El-Sayed and Piker if America really deserved this:

Shelley and I were honored to join President Trump, members of his Cabinet, Tunnel to Towers Foundation Chairman and CEO Frank Siller, hundreds of first responders, and the families of those we lost on September 11th at the White House this week for the final stop of Tunnel to Towers’ Steel Across America tour.

As we mark the 25th anniversary of 9/11, we remember the nearly 3,000 innocent lives taken from us, honor the extraordinary courage and sacrifice of our first responders, and reflect on the unity and resolve our nation showed in the days that followed.

I am honored to support Frank and the entire Tunnel to Towers Foundation in their incredible mission to support Gold Star families, catastrophically injured veterans, fallen first responders and their families, and so many American heroes who have sacrificed for our country and our communities.

Twenty-five years later, our promise remains the same: Never Forget. 🇺🇸

Thousands of riders from across the country came to Lycoming County on Friday for the 25th annual 9/11 Memorial Ride to remember those who were killed on Sept 11, 2001. Tens of thousands of spectators lined the 42 mile route to ensure we never forget those who were killed on that tragic day, 25 years ago.

On Thursday, September 10^th, we remembered the 1 year anniversary of the horrific assassination of Charlie Kirk. Kirk believed that respect was the foundation of healthy public discourse.

Charlie spoke his mind, never backed down, and created a movement that spread to college campuses and inspired young people across the country.

He paid the ultimate price for his bravery, principles, and commitment to respectful dialogue. His legacy continues to live on in everyone inspired by his courage.

Always a pleasure to spend time at the Luzerne County Fair!

I enjoyed visiting with families, local businesses, farmers, volunteers and friends from across Luzerne County. The fair is a great opportunity to celebrate our agricultural community and the people who make this region such a special place.

It was also great to see State Representative Brenda Pugh, State House candidate Mike Harostock, and so many dedicated volunteers with the Luzerne County Republican Party, who are hard at work connecting with voters and building momentum for November.

Thank you to everyone who works year-round to make the Luzerne County Fair such a great tradition, and to all those who stopped by to say hello. In particular, I want to thank Brenda and Alan Pugh for all they do to make the Luzerne County fair such a great event and success. They’ve been doing this for years just hard-working pillars of our community and it’s appreciated.

It’s always a pleasure to spend time at the fair and connect with so many people from across Luzerne County.

Shelley and I attended the livestock auction. We bid on and won the goat shown below. The best thing about all of it is the proceeds all be going to a local family with a very little baby. So many great things come from our county fairs.

I engaged in the Pa Trooper fitness test at the fair. Thanks to our Pennsylvania State Troopers are truly some of the finest, if not the finest law-enforcement officers in the country.

I also conducted an interview with Dwayne McDavitt on his Thunder and Liberty podcast. Dwayne is president of Bikers for Trump and just a great American.

 

It was an honor to attend the 12th Annual Captain Jason B. Jones Memorial Golf Tournament at the Schuylkill Country Club.

Jason was an Orwigsburg native, West Point graduate and Green Beret who dedicated his life to serving our country. He was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2014 while leading a Special Forces team. More than a decade later, Jason’s legacy continues through the work of his parents Jay and Suzy, sister Lizzy, many friends and the Captain Jason Jones Memorial Foundation.

During the ceremony, we also reflected on the anniversary of September 11 and remembered the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost that day, the first responders who ran toward danger, and the service members who answered our nation’s call in the years that followed.

We also remembered U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Sean Matthew Kelly, who passed away unexpectedly in July while stationed at Fort Drum. Sean dedicated his life to serving our country, and his loss is deeply felt by his family, friends, fellow soldiers and our entire community.

Thank you to everyone who continues to carry forward the legacies of Jason and Sean and to all who made today’s tournament and ceremony possible. We will always remember those who have served and sacrificed for our country.

Lastly, we lost a good friend and patriot Bob Bolus this past week. Bob was really a legend in Lackawanna County. He was a fighter. He was a businessman. He was a good man who loved our country and he worked 24/7 it seemed in his business and on behalf of the elected officials he believed in. I greatly appreciated knowing him and his legacy is what northeast Pennsylvania is all about... being tough... working hard... and patriotism. Shelley and I want to extend our deepest condolences to Bob's family and friends.
