Weekend Update - 8.23.26

Good morning, and welcome to our Weekend Update.

Earlier this week, it was great to join Speaker Mike Johnson and Congressman Rob Bresnahan for an event focused on supporting the brave men and women of law enforcement who work every day to keep our communities safe. Under Speaker Johnson’s leadership, House Republicans are working alongside President Trump to restore law and order, secure our border, combat the flow of deadly fentanyl, and stand firmly with the officers who put their lives on the line to protect us. Despite holding one of the narrowest majorities in congressional history, the Speaker continues to unite us and deliver results for the American people.

Rob has also been a strong addition to Pennsylvania’s Republican congressional delegation and an effective partner in representing the priorities of northeastern Pennsylvania. We are fortunate to have his leadership in Washington and his commitment to the hardworking families and communities he serves.

Protecting our Republican House majority will be critical to maintaining the progress we have made and continuing to move our country in the right direction. I look forward to continuing to work alongside Speaker Johnson, Rob, and our entire Republican team to deliver for Pennsylvania and advance our shared conservative values.

After reviewing his polling, Hakeem Jeffries seems to be trying to convince the American people that his party isn’t as crazy as everybody thinks. That’s why he’s twisting himself like a pretzel, trying to say he appreciates extreme socialist policies while also trying to distance himself from the socialists taking over his party at the same time.

Watch my appearance on “Mornings with Maria” on Fox Business where I discuss why the extremism of the radical left is not relatable to the vast majority of the American public. Click here or below to watch.

Republicans want to grow the economy, and the socialist democrats want to grow the government. That’s perhaps the biggest difference between Republicans and Democrats.

The decision facing the American people couldn’t be clearer. This is a policy debate, and Republicans believe in common sense.

Watch my interview on Newsmax, where I discuss these growing radical voices in the Democrat Party and Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General Dave Sunday’s great work on a major drug trafficking case in Pennsylvania. Click here or below to watch.

IN NEWS YOU WON’T HEAR IN THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA: Over the weekend, far-Left Democrat Rep. Lloyd Doggett said Democrats embracing policies like abolishing the police, prisons, and borders are a “path to victory” and “a path to saving our democracy.”

Democrats nationwide are fully embracing this extreme agenda:

  • DNC Chair Ken Martin: “We build a winning coalition by widening the circle, expanding the tent.”
  • Senator Adam Schiff: “It is one Democratic party, and I think if we want to be in the majority we’re going to have to be a big tent party.”
  • Rep. Analilia Mejia said it’s “an indicator of the vibrancy and wellness of our Democratic party.”
  • Rep. Pramila Jayapal: “Progressives have always been about advancing things that are good for Americans…”

Democrats don’t actually care about working for the American people as long as they can claw their way to power. Nevada Democrat Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar said it himself: “Do we want to be right? Or do we want to win? I want to win!”

This week, I launched my second Fraud & Scams Public Service Announcement, now airing on radio stations across Pennsylvania’s Ninth Congressional District. Click here or below to watch.

In 2025, Americans reported losing nearly $16 billion to fraud. However, given chronic underreporting, the real number could be far higher.

As Chairman of the Financial Services Committee Republicans Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, I have led a comprehensive investigation into financial fraud and scams, released a report outlining solutions, introduced bipartisan legislation to hold online platforms accountable, and worked with Vice President JD Vance's Task Force to Eliminate Fraud.

Listen to my latest public service announcement above or visit Meuser.house.gov/scams for information on how to recognize, reject, and report financial scams.

You are not fighting these scammers alone; my office is here to help.

I sat down with WBRE to discuss our efforts to combat financial fraud. Click here or below to watch.

SCAM ALERT: Pennsylvanians should be on alert for government imposter scams where criminals pose as local sheriff’s offices and threaten arrest over missed jury duty or court hearings.

Legitimate law enforcement and courts will not demand payment by gift card, Bitcoin, or cryptocurrency to avoid arrest. Never pay over the phone.
Hang up, call back using official numbers, and report the scam to reportfraud.ftc.gov. Learn more about this new scam from Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General Dave Sunday by clicking here or below.

A related issue we are facing is the tremendous amount of fraud plaguing our federal government. One area that Vice President JD Vance's Fraud Task Force has identified is roughly $230 billion in Medicare fraud. That is taxpayer money that is being used improperly. Click here or below to watch Vice President Vance and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller outline their findings.

The strain of rising costs are impacting every family and they have been for years. The Democrat Party and the mainstream media are attempting to push a narrative that the higher prices are a result of the Trump presidency.

CNN continues to push this false narrative. Thankfully, Scott Jennings masterfully debunks this false information. Click here or below to watch.

The truth is that these high prices spiked rapidly during the Biden "autopen" administration. Please watch the video below for a refresher on the timeline of rising costs by clicking here or below.

It was a pleasure to join business leaders at East Penn Manufacturing Co. for the Greater Reading Chamber Alliance’s Legislative Roundtable on the future of manufacturing in Pennsylvania.

Our manufacturers are the backbone of our economy, providing good-paying jobs, driving innovation, and strengthening communities across the Commonwealth. We discussed how we can continue attracting investment, helping businesses expand, developing a skilled workforce, and building stronger supply chains.

Thank you to Rep. Jamie Barton for joining us, East Penn Manufacturing Co. and Visions Federal Credit Union for sponsoring the event, and everyone at the Greater Reading Chamber Alliance who helped bring together local manufacturers and business leaders for an important conversation.

Pennsylvania has everything it needs to be a national manufacturing leader, and I look forward to continuing to work with our business community to make that happen.

I had a great time marching alongside State Treasurer Stacy Garrity in the annual Grand Slam Parade to kick off the Little League World Series in Williamsport. It’s always a pleasure to see the joy and excitement the LLWS brings to the community.

Each year, Williamsport becomes an international hub for the next generation of baseball stars. The community and everyone involved in the Little League World Series should be proud of the way they showcase Williamsport and the spirit of sportsmanship to the entire world.

Good luck to everyone competing in this year’s tournament, especially Pennsylvania’s own East Side Little League from West Chester, representing the Mid-Atlantic Region!

Our Gold Star Families deserve our enduring gratitude and respect. Behind every fallen hero is a family who carries their memory, their legacy, and their sacrifice forward.

It was an honor last week to spend time with Bob and Nick Sandri and remember Bob’s son, Sgt. Matthew J. Sandri of Shamokin. Matthew served as a paratrooper and Army medic with the 82nd Airborne Division and had been serving in Iraq since August 2003. On March 20, 2004, Matthew was killed in action from injuries sustained during an enemy rocket attack on the medical facility where he was serving near Fallujah, Iraq. He was just 24 years old.

Matthew’s legacy of service continues more than two decades later, both in the military and within his own family. The Taylor-Sandri Medical Training Center at Fort Bragg bears his name alongside Lt. Col. Mark Taylor, who was killed in the same attack, and continues to train military medical personnel in lifesaving battlefield care. That same spirit of service lives on through Matthew’s cousin, Nick, who recently completed the police academy and joined the Shamokin Police Department, carrying forward his cousin’s commitment to serving others and his community.

Earlier this summer, Bob and Nick asked if I could help deliver a letter to President Trump in Matthew’s memory. I was grateful to recently present them with President Trump’s thoughtful response to their family.

The Sandri family’s story is a powerful reminder of the tremendous sacrifice borne by our Gold Star Families. We can never fully repay the debt we owe our fallen heroes or the families who carry their memories forward, but we can ensure their names, their service, and their sacrifice are never forgotten.

May God bless the Sandri family, all of our Gold Star Families, and all those who have given their lives in defense of our nation.

It was great to be with Senator Lisa Baker for her annual Clambaker event! It was also a pleasure to see Representative Brenda Pugh, Representative Dane Watro, Susquehanna County Commissioner David Darrow, Wyoming County Commissioners Tom Henry, Rick Wilbur, and Ernie King, District Attorney Joe Peters, and so many friends and supporters.

Lisa has been a strong conservative voice and a tireless advocate for northeastern Pennsylvania. For nearly two decades, she has stood up for our veterans, supported law enforcement, protected taxpayers, and delivered for our communities and we need strong leaders like Lisa continuing that fight in Harrisburg.

We got lots of support from many patriotic Pennsylvanians at the Harford Fair. 🇺🇸

It was great to see so many friends, families, and hardworking Americans come out to enjoy one of our area’s great traditions.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello. Energy for the GOP ticket is strong in NEPA!

May God continue to bless our nation. I look forward to seeing you soon,

Dan Meuser
