Weekly Update - 5.17.26
Dear Friend,
Good afternoon, and welcome to our Weekend Update.
President Donald J. Trump’s vision for the American economy is one of pro-growth, spurring manufacturing and innovation at home, despite ongoing tensions with Iran that have rattled global markets.
On Monday, I joined Maria Bartiromo in studio to discuss how the President has successfully managed the military and economic factors at play, and how incoming Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s pending confirmation can complement existing economic gains. Click here or below to watch.
Democrat leadership isn’t offering a vision for America—they’re focused on erasing the achievements we've made under President Trump.
While they continue to play politics to get back into power, Republicans are working to deliver real solutions.
Watch my interview on Newsmax, where I break down the contrast in leadership and what it means for our future. Click here or below to watch.
The Biden administration spent four years allowing 13.5 million illegal immigrants into our country, which is more people than the population of Pennsylvania. Now, congressional Democrats are doing everything in their power to defund immigration and border security.
Why? The answer is simple: they want illegal immigrants counted in our census and voting in American elections.
Watch my appearance on Friday morning on Newsmax, where I discuss House Republicans’ plan to restore funding to immigration and border enforcement as well as President Trump’s historic visit to China. Click here or below to watch.
As promised last week, be sure to watch the “Keystone Edition” on WVIA featuring a panel discussion I participated in on illegal immigration in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
I discussed the ongoing challenges surrounding illegal immigration and how the United States remains the most welcoming nation in the world for legal immigration. The conversation also included a range of perspectives on the issue, and I emphasized the importance of strong border security and enforcing our immigration laws. Click here or below to watch.
IN NEWS YOU WON’T HEAR IN THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA: On Thursday, during a hearing on sanctuary cities, Maryland Democrat Rep. Jamie Raskin said he did not understand why ICE could not just "pick up" criminal illegals from jails before they are released.
ICE cannot "pick up" criminal illegals from jails because Democrat Governors are refusing cooperation:
- California Governor Gavin Newsom says he will not allow ICE in his jails.
- Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont restricts cooperation with ICE.
- Illinois Governor JB Pritzker bans cooperation with ICE and creates a commission to gather "evidence" about agents.
- Maine Governor Janet Mills restricts cooperation with ICE.
- Maryland Governor Wes Moore bans cooperation with ICE.
- Minnesota Governor Tim Walz refuses cooperation with ICE.
- New York Governor Kathy Hochul bans cooperation with ICE.
- New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill bans cooperation with ICE.
- Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro says he will invoke the 10th amendment to stop ICE.
- Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger bans cooperation with ICE.
Democrats' refusal to cooperate with ICE has even radical Democrats like Jamie Raskin stunned and confused.
This was National Police Week where we reflect on the brave men and women who put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe. As the son of a police officer, I know firsthand the sacrifices our law enforcement officers and their families make every day.House Republicans will always back the blue by giving them the tools they need to do their jobs safely. We are passing legislation to strengthen support for our dedicated law enforcement officials and increase penalties for those who harm them.

In the last year alone, 4 police officers lost their lives in the line of duty in Pennsylvania: York County Police Detectives Mark Baker, Cody Becker, and Isaiah Emenheiser, as well as Officer Andrew Duarte of the West York Police Department, all dedicated law enforcement officers.
On Tuesday evening, I spoke on the House floor to honor their sacrifice and all those who have lost their lives in the line of duty. This week and always, we must continue to back the blue. Click here or below to watch.
I joined my colleagues in a prayer vigil on the House Steps honoring fallen law enforcement officials over the past year.
We were joined by Linsey Timmons, a Gold Shield spouse who shared the heartbreak of losing her husband, Officer Tyler Timmons, in the line of duty.
Last year, on National Police Week, the House passed my Gold Shield Families Resolution to recognize and support the loved ones of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty, like the Timmons family.
Moments like this are an important reminder that law enforcement needs our support not just on National Police Week, but every single day.

On Wednesday, I appreciated the opportunity to meet with Sean Curran, the Director of the United States Secret Service, this week. Director Curran is leading efforts to strengthen security for the President, senior officials, and major events throughout the country this year, including the World Cup and our nation's 250th Anniversary celebrations.
Today’s environment requires the highest level of human and protective resources to protect our current President and all future presidents.
Sean and I were both in Butler, Pennsylvania, when an assassin’s bullet nearly took President Trump’s life. I appreciate his continued service and commitment to protecting the President and our country.

I want to send my congratulations to Kevin Warsh on his confirmation as Chairman of the Federal Reserve. First appointed to the Federal Reserve Board in 2006, he has also spent years in the private sector since his original service at the Fed, giving him a unique understanding of how monetary policy decisions affect businesses, investment lending, and economic growth in the real economy.
Chairman Warsh understands that interest rates are not the only tool available to manage economic growth or inflation. Rate hikes or cuts directly affect mortgages, capital markets, and businesses' ability to get access to capital.
Previously, the Federal Reserve relied on flooding the economy with liquidity during periods of stress, dramatically expanding the Fed’s balance sheet and manufacturing excess money supply.
Chairman Warsh brings a different approach. By shrinking the Fed’s balance sheet, limiting excessive monetary expansion, and leveraging private sector productivity and investment, he recognizes that sustainable economic growth comes from innovation and production – not simply from injecting more cash into the system. This will allow mortgage rates, loan costs, and interest rates to come down.
Rather than suppressing economic activity to control inflation, Chairman Warsh has proposed growing the economy through stronger supply-side investment. That is an important shift in thinking for the Federal Reserve, and I look forward to working with him in the years ahead.
On Wednesday, I spoke with members of the Anne Anstine Excellence in Public Service Series visiting Washington.
The Anne Anstine Series is a training program for Pennsylvania women in public service, equipping them with leadership skills, professional networks, and public policy knowledge to become effective leaders.
Thank you to everyone in the Anne Anstine Series for your commitment to serving our Commonwealth, and a special thanks to their Executive Director, Bernie Comfort, for her continued dedication to training the next generation of women leaders.

This week, I welcomed members of the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors to my office in Washington.
We discussed our ongoing collaboration to improve infrastructure, government services, and revitalization projects in townships across my district. Thank you all for making the trip!

Friday was National Scam Survivor Day, where we support the victims of financial scams and raise awareness about the resources available to fight fraudsters. As Chair of the Financial Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, I have held multiple hearings and roundtables and published public service announcements to educate consumers about financial scams and increase cooperation to stop them.
That begins with raising awareness, but more action is necessary; we need a whole-of-society approach. Earlier this year, I introduced the SCAM Act to hold online platforms accountable for paid-for scam ads and met with federal, state, and local law enforcement to discuss how to better combat scams.
Online security has never been more important as con artists become increasingly sophisticated. Please click here for more information on how to protect yourself and your loved ones from scams.

This week, I participated in the Small Business Showcase at the Capitol, where I joined U.S. Small Business Administration Administrator Kelly Loeffler, Speaker Mike Johnson, and Small Business Committee Chair Roger Williams to discuss our work supporting small businesses nationwide.
We are helping small businesses not just with words, but with legislation like my bill, the Investing in All of America Act, which increases access to capital for entrepreneurs. We are also cutting taxes for small businesses through the Working Families Tax Cuts and cutting bureaucratic “blue tape” to get government out of the way of small business owners.
We had two outstanding small business leaders from our district, Douglass Henry of Henry Molded Products and Paul Kennedy of Signal of Pennsylvania and New Jersey, at the showcase, demonstrating the Commonwealth's outsized impact on America’s economy.

This week, I attended a reception with Senator Dave McCormick in Washington, D.C. this week. We were joined by many great Pennsylvania friends and industry leaders.

Yesterday, I attended the Smoke-onos Cigar Festival right in our own backyard this weekend.
Smoke-onos brings together over 1500 cigar enthusiasts and retailers to enjoy premium cigars in Northeast Pennsylvania.
As the co-chair of the bipartisan Congressional Cigar Caucus, I work to protect the small family businesses who work in the premium cigar industry. These businesses support countless jobs in the agricultural, manufacturing and retail sectors.
Big thanks to Greg Fox, CEO of Best Cigar Prices, for hosting this fantastic festival along with Nick Perdoma, Rocky Patell, Jonathan Drew, and all the biggest names in the industry in the country for attending and supporting a great event.

PRIMARY ELECTION REMINDER:
Tuesday, May 19, is Primary Election Day in Pennsylvania. First, if you are a registered voter in the Commonwealth, please vote. It is an important right that countless Americans have and continue to fight for each day to protect. We must never take that for granted.
I am so honored to serve the great people of Pennsylvania’s 9th District in Congress, and I humbly ask for your support as I stand for re-election. While we have worked to accomplish a great deal to support President Trump’s America First Agenda, we have so much more to do… including passing the SAVE ACT. While I am running unopposed in the Primary Election, I ask Republican voters to support my campaign.
Additionally, I would ask you to support my good friend State Senator Lisa Baker. Senator Baker has been a committed Republican office holder for years and we need her fighting for us in Harrisburg.
If you are unsure of where to vote, please click here to find your polling place.
May God continue to bless our nation. I look forward to seeing you soon,

Dan Meuser
