Weekly Update - 4.26.26
Good afternoon, and welcome to our Weekend Update.
Last night's attempted attack on President Donald J. Trump was horrific. I'm thankful no innocent people were harmed. We’re grateful as always for the law enforcement and first responders who acted so quickly to bring the situation under control.
It is incumbent on leaders to take the temperature and rhetoric down, and we all must emphatically condemn political violence.

Over 70 days into the Democrat leadership’s shutdown of DHS and employees are once again at risk of losing their paychecks that President Trump restored with an Executive Order last month.
On Wednesday, I joined “Varney & Co.” on Fox Business to discuss the path to reopening DHS and President Trump's latest deal to cut through Obama and Biden-era blue tape to keep two coal plants operational in Pennsylvania, preserving baseload power generation and hundreds of jobs in the Commonwealth. On Tuesday, Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick resigned rather than face expulsion for stealing $5 million in federal disaster money to benefit herself and her political campaign. She was indicted, and despite mounting evidence, Democrat leadership refused to call for her to resign. I joined Newsmax’s “American Agenda” to discuss. Click here or below to watch.
I applaud US Attorney Jeanine Pirro and the United States Department of Justice Scam Center Strike Force for their announcement of its coordinated effort to combat scam center operators targeting Americans.
As chair of the House Committee on Financial Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, I have been working with federal agencies, the private sector, and law enforcement to better address the rising threat of fraud and scams. We must continue to work together to protect all Americans from these criminals. Click here or below to read more.
Last weekend, our interview with my friend Chuck Volpe aired on “The Volpe Report” where we discussed Pennsylvania’s role on the national stage and the key issues facing our Commonwealth.
I was glad to be joined by Speaker Mike Johnson, Congressman Rob Bresnahan, and my good friend Bill Rosado to highlight the work underway in Congress and what’s at stake this election year. Click here or below to watch.
IN NEWS YOU WON’T HEAR IN THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA:Trump Effect: American Manufacturing Is Roaring Back as Factory Activity Hits Four-Year High
Under President Donald J. Trump’s strong leadership, American manufacturing is surging. After years of career politicians selling out American workers for cheap foreign labor, the American manufacturing comeback is gaining speed in every part of the country.
The Numbers Don’t Lie: American Industry Is Winning Again
For the third month in a row, the manufacturing sector is growing as key indicators show broad strength.
- The Institute for Supply Management’s key manufacturing index — which tracks factory activity across the country — registered the sector’s third straight month of expansion for its highest reading since 2022.
- The New Orders Index expanded for the third consecutive month as both domestic and global buyers turn to American-made goods.
- The Production Index expanded for the fifth consecutive month and is accelerating as factories run at a pace not seen since before the Biden-era slowdown.
- The New Orders Index expanded for the third consecutive month as both domestic and global buyers turn to American-made goods.
- The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia’s Manufacturing Index surged in April, smashing expectations.
- The manufacturing sector capped off the first quarter of 2026 with the first positive manufacturing job growth in three years.
- The broader U.S. economy has now expanded for 17 consecutive months, a streak of sustained growth the Biden Administration was never able to deliver.
The Greatest Reshoring Wave in History: Companies Are Coming Home
President Trump promised to bring manufacturing back to America — and his policies are delivering the largest reshoring wave in American history as companies invest trillions to build and expand here at home.
-
U.S. Steel is restarting its Gary Tin Mill in Indiana, creating 225 American jobs — protected by strong tariff enforcement. The mill was shuttered in 2022 after cheap foreign imports flooded the market under Biden’s failed trade policies. Now, thanks to President Trump’s aggressive tariff enforcement, the Gary Tin Mill is coming back online.
- Apple is committing $600 billion over four years to U.S. manufacturing — its largest-ever investment. The investment will create 20,000 new jobs and expand partnerships with a broad range of domestic suppliers.
-
Nvidia is pledging $500 billion to produce AI chips and infrastructure entirely in the U.S. — the first time such technology will be produced entirely on American soil. Production of Nvidia’s next-generation chips is already underway in Arizona.
-
Johnson & Johnson is investing $55 billion investment in new U.S. manufacturing and development. The commitment will establish its next generation of production right here at home.
-
AstraZeneca is investing $50 billion, Bristol Myers Squibb is spending $40 billion, and GSK is funding $30 billion in American manufacturing. These foreign companies are dramatically expanding their U.S. footprints as they reshore critical drug manufacturing to the U.S. and reinforce our domestic supply chains for life-saving medicines.
-
GlobalFoundries is investing $16 billion to reshore advanced semiconductor manufacturing. Chips that power everything from cars to fighter jets will be made in America, reducing our dangerous dependence on foreign adversaries.
-
Stellantis is committing $13 billion investment to American manufacturing. The company’s largest-ever single investment will expand its domestic production by 50% as it reopens plants and adds new production at facilities nationwide.
- The list goes on and on and on.
Record investment. Reshoring jobs. A brighter future for every American worker. American manufacturing is back under President Trump.
It was great to be in Shamokin for the groundbreaking of the Independence Street Corridor redevelopment initiative.
My office secured $2.675 million for this project, which will improve safety, ensure accessibility for those with mobility issues, and boost economic development.
Excited to see the improvements this project will bring to the entire area. Thank you, SEDA-COG, for your partnership and dedication to improving our communities.
I was joined by State Rep. JoAnne Stehr and many local stakeholders who helped make this project a reality.

On Monday evening, I spoke on the House floor to honor the life and legacy of Berks County Fire Chiefs Jeff Buck and Robert Shick, who tragically lost their lives in the line of duty this month.
Walnuttown Fire Chief Buck and Assistant Fire Chief Shick served their community with distinction for many years. The outpouring of sorrow and support from the entire community reflects the respect and admiration held by all.
As we continue to honor their service and sacrifice, Shelley and I extend our deepest condolences and prayers to the surviving friends and families of these brave heroes. Click here or below to watch.
Access to capital is critical for small businesses, and community banks that are on the front lines of delivering it.
The CFPB’s 1071 rule requires invasive data collection, is misguided, and imposes unnecessary burdens on institutions that provide vital access to capital for small businesses.
On Tuesday, I joined my colleagues on the House Committee on Financial Services in support of Chairman Congressman French Hill’s Small LENDER Act to right-size this rule, protect small lenders, and preserve access to capital. Click here or below to watch.
On Wednesday, it was great to meet with representatives from the Truck Trailers Manufacturers Association at my office in Washington.
Gary Hartman, President of Cheetah Chassis; Shari Solomon, Vice President of Diamatrix; Gene Astolfi, CFO of Trail King Industries; and Travis Eby, President of Eby Inc, all have significant footprints in Pennsylvania and make a massive contribution to our workforce.
Truckers and those who manufacture their trailers are vital to keeping our economy moving. Thanks for stopping by!

On Thursday, It was great to meet with Paul Nyman and Matt Slivinski of the Pennsylvania State Association of Letter Carriers in Washington.
The Association represents more than 14,000 letter carriers across the Commonwealth, transporting crucial goods and correspondence.
We discussed my continued support for the dedicated men and women who always deliver, rain or shine.

Later, I had the privilege of speaking at the U.S. Department of Labor Workers Memorial ceremony honoring those who have been killed in workplace accidents over the last year.
Although there has been significant and encouraging progress over the past 60 years in reducing workplace injuries and fatalities, both remain prevalent issues.
By improving union, private sector, and government standards, we can continue to improve protections for the American working men and women who keep the machinery of industry running. At its core, safety is about one thing: caring for employees. There’s no greater care for employers than having your employees be safe.
I appreciate the opportunity to participate in this moving memorial service and highlight the importance of supporting every American worker.

On Friday, it was great to attend Pete Helms’ annual Ice Fishing Party. Always a pleasure to see our outstanding Treasurer and candidate for Governor, Stacy Garrity, alongside Lieutenant Governor candidate Jason Richey and Senator Lisa Baker.
I was joined by some of the best community leaders from across multiple counties. I’m grateful to work alongside so many dedicated individuals who are committed to moving Pennsylvania forward.

On Saturday, I stopped by the Bloomsburg Renaissance Faire and caught up with friends including those at the Columbia County Republican Committee booth, who are out energizing voters ahead of the primary. Always great connecting with our local law enforcement from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and so many others in the community.

Last evening, I joined the Wyoming County Council of Republican Women for their Spring Dinner.
I was glad to be joined by Pennsylvania Treasurer and our next Governor, Stacy Garrity, along with Senator Lisa Baker and Representative Tina Pickett, who continue to do an outstanding job serving our region.
It was great to be with so many dedicated Republicans who are working hard to advance our shared values and strengthen our communities. Thank you to the Wyoming County Council of Republican Women for hosting a fantastic event and for your continued commitment to our party.

May God continue to bless our nation. I look forward to seeing you soon,

Dan Meuser
