Weekly Update - 8.28.22

Good afternoon and welcome to our Weekend Update.

This week, I joined the "National Report" on Newsmax to discuss various issues, including the FBI's raid of Mar-a-Lago. Like many Americans, I believe the whole situation was outrageous. Conversations were taking place, and it seemed as if President Trump, the secret service, and his staff were fully cooperating with the archives that were claimed to be in lockdown at the president's residence. But unfortunately, things went off the rails at a certain point, and the Department of Justice decided to take some very rash actions. To justify their outrageous actions, they came up with a story about nuclear codes, which made ridiculous headlines in the fake news.

There's one party here asking for full disclosure, and that's President Trump's lawyers. Meanwhile, the DOJ continues to present redacted materials and refuses to present the evidence. I think that's pretty telling in itself. We also discussed the Pennsylvania statewide elections and the importance of electing Dr. Mehmet Oz to the U.S. Senate and Doug Mastriano as our next Governor. Click here or below to watch.

In other news, the Biden administration keeps digging holes and implementing policies that will increase inflation and hurt hardworking taxpayers.

On Wednesday, the Biden administration announced plans to cancel $10,000 in federal student loans for borrowers who earn less than $125,000 a year; couples who file taxes jointly and earn less than $250,000 also will be eligible for debt cancelation. And Pell Grant recipients, those from low-income families, will be eligible for an additional $10,000 in debt relief, for a total of $20,000.

This begs the question, why pay off your self-imposed debt if Biden Democrats can get a hardworking American to do it for you? Forgiving self-induced student debt is a moral hazard for our country and will enhance inflation: another out-of-touch and wasteful policy from Biden-Pelosi-Schumer Democrats.

This week was also the one-week anniversary of Biden's disastrous and tragic withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan. This was a mournful day for America, especially the families of 13 of America's best lost in Afghanistan who gave their lives helping people flee oppression and potential death. We must pay honor to those who've made the ultimate sacrifice and to all those military heroes who kept us safe from terrorists for so many years. May God bless these great American heroes. Americans will never forget: Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Darin T. Hoover, Marine Corps Sgt. Johanny Rosario Pichardo, Marine Corps Sgt. Nicole L. Gee, Marine Corps Cpl. Hunter Lopez, Marine Corps Cpl. Daegan W. Page, Marine Corps Cpl. Humberto A. Sanchez, Marine Corps Lance Cpl. David L. Espinoza, Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Jared M. Schmitz, Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Rylee J. McCollum, Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Dylan R. Merola, Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Kareem M. Nikoui, Army Staff Sgt. Ryan C. Knauss, and Navy Hospital Corpsman Maxton W. Soviak.

Biden chose to observe the anniversary of this tragic event by taping a comedy show with Jay Leno; the families of these brave Americans deserve better. CNN interviewed Shana Chappell, a Gold Star mother who lost two sons because of Biden's Afghanistan withdrawal. Click here or below to watch.

Around the District:

We started this week by joining Rusty Fender for an appearance on this week's episode of "The Shale Gas News." Besides all things shale, we talked about projects that have cleaned up acid mine drainage in our region and the impact of some of the taxes included in "The Inflation Reduction Act." "The Shale Gas News" is heard every Saturday at 10 AM on 94.3 The Talker, 1510 AM, 1600 AM, 104.1 FM and Sundays on YesFM, as well as in the Williamsport area on stations WEJS 1600 AM and 104.1 FM. The Shale Gas News is now broadcasting in Bradford, Lackawanna, Lancaster, Lebanon, Luzerne, Lycoming, Pike, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Tioga and Wayne Counties, as well as in greater central Pennsylvania.

On Tuesday, I joined The Sam Lesante Show to discuss many important topics impacting the 9th congressional district. Click here or below to watch.

We then headed to Lehigh Hanson in Evansville to see their large cement operation. Impressive company with a great leadership team.

On Wednesday, I was invited by the Northeast Manufacturers and Employers Association to take part in their congressional luncheon. As a result, I had the opportunity to discuss the ongoing climate of government with a room full of great leaders and companies.

After our luncheon, I traveled to Berks County to visit a significant employer in the district, EnerSys. I was joined by our good friend Barry Schlouch and his wife Deb, EnerSys president and CEO David Shaffer, and Senior VP and CTO Joern Tinnemeyer. They showed me the great work they're doing right in Berks County and how they're planning for the future.

Later that evening, we made our last stop in beautiful Jim Thorpe in Carbon County. My great friend, Catherine Jaindl-Leuthe, invited me to the Harry Packer Mansion, where they celebrated its first anniversary of operation with the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce. Always great to visit with our friend, Rep. Doyle Heffley.

We then attended the Columbia-Montour Chamber of Commerce, where I provided congressional updates to their Bloomsburg members. I was glad to discuss issues such as the Inflation Reduction Act, my service on the small business and foreign affairs committees, and many other topics important to the chamber and its members.

IN NEWS YOU WON'T HEAR IN THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA: The Biden administration's student loan bailout is not popular with many Americans, will increase the deficit, and is a desperate attempt to buy votes and support. Biden and the Biden Democrats are now facing backlash from all sides on his terrible student loan bailout – including liberal economists – and for good reason.

So Biden and his administration took to the airwaves to answer your most hard-hitting questions about his regressive bailout for liberal elites:

  • How much will it cost? Answer: No idea.
  • Who is going to pay for it? Answer: Who cares.
  • Does he have the authority to do it? Answer: Pass.
  • Will it increase inflation and raise tuition? Answer: Don't listen to those pesky economists.
  • Is this fair to people who did not attend college? Answer: Whatever.
  • So people who didn't attend college or sacrificed to pay off student loans don't benefit at all? Answer: "Right."

In reality, Biden's bailout is inflationaryunfairregressive, and will cost $300 billion paid for by the working and middle class. Voters will remember in November.

Thank you, and keep up the faith and the fight,
