Good afternoon and welcome to our Weekend Update.

First, I wish a Happy Mother's Day to the best moms I know… my mom, Maeve, and my wife, Shelley. I also want to extend a Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there. As one of our greatest presidents, Ronald Reagan, once said, “The heart of a mother is a heart that is always full. Generation after generation has measured love by the work and wonder of motherhood. For these gifts, ever ancient and ever new, we cannot pause too often to give thanks to mothers.” (Pictured below with Shelley and my mom)

This week, we were in Washington, D.C., as the nation faces crisis after crisis resulting from Biden's broken policies.

Whether it’s Biden’s immigration crisis, his unwillingness to negotiate on the debt ceiling or his family’s shady business dealings, this President is failing the American people. We deserve better. Additionally, I joined Newsmax TV’s “Wake Up America” to discuss the ongoing negotiations between the Biden administration and the White House on the debt ceiling. We need to get together and get a deal done, but the Biden administration is not coming to the table. In 2011, during debt ceiling talks, then Vice-President Biden said you “have to have compromise” and criticized those who take a “my way or the highway” approach – yet that is exactly what he is doing now. The Biden administration’s decision to allow Title 42 to expire is disastrous. Outlandishly, Biden admitted that the border will be chaotic for a while (as if it hasn't been). This administration had two years to prepare for this situation and did nothing. The Biden record on the border can be summed up this way… Record crossings. Record chaos. Record carelessness.

Anyone who is even slightly informed understands how dire the immigration crisis is at the southern border. I have had the opportunity to visit the border several times. The Customs Border Patrol, National Guard, and state and local officials all say the same thing… the situation is out of control, and the border is not secure. Cartels and traffickers are ushering vulnerable people into the nation illegally. These people are in horrific positions, with reports saying a third of women are being raped. Hundreds are dying, and tons of fentanyl are entering the nation, killing over three hundred, mostly young, Americans daily.

In response, House Republicans passed a solution to the border crisis. H.R. 2 will end Catch and Release, reestablish the Remain in Mexico policy, enforce asylum laws, and fortify the border with a barrier.

It’s simple -- a yes vote was for solving the border crisis, and a no vote was for the status quo. I spoke on the floor of the U.S. House in support of H.R. 2. Click here or below to watch my remarks.

Additionally, I spoke to WKOK about the crisis at the border. While the Biden Administration sits on its hands, House Republicans acted this week to secure our southern border. #HR2 will significantly curb the influx of migrants and drugs into our country. Click here to listen to our interview.

IN NEWS YOU WON’T HEAR IN THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA: There have now been 1.4 MILLION “getaways” – illegal immigrants who have crossed the border and escaped into the U.S. – since Joe Biden took office.

How did we reach this number? By taking Customs and Border Protection’s “gotaways” data since Biden took office, reported by Townhall, combined with data provided by Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz as he testified before Congress, and weekly “gotaways” numbers he posts on his Twitter.

1.4 MILLION! That’s larger than the population of San Diego, America’s 8^th largest city. The border is NOT secure.

Meanwhile, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas insists the Biden administration’s border security plan is “working,” and the chaos was “expected.” But he fails to discuss how the plan is working because it isn't. The Biden administration has failed at the border and must be held accountable.

In other news, we have highlighted the political bias at the SEC is obstructing Truth Social’s ability to become a publicly traded company. Truth Social has been waiting 353 days for SEC approval – despite the average wait time being only 134 days. I spoke to Sean Hannity on his radio program. Sean Hannity is dedicated to exposing political bias within the federal bureaucracy. The U.S. Small Business Administration’s 7(a) program provides loans to small businesses without taxpayer subsidy. However, the SBA recently issued new 7(a) rules causing significant bipartisan concern. Unfortunately, the SBA continues to ignore Congress and our committee. Still, we will fight hard and carry out oversight to keep access to capital available with responsible standards, which keep an even playing field and minimize risk to taxpayers. Democrats say we need MORE government regulation to prevent bank failures like SVB and Signature Bank. The nonpartisan Government Accountability Office disagrees.

This week, we thanked Battery Council International - BCI and the organization’s president, Roger Miksad, for hosting an event on Capitol Hill today to discuss the future of the U.S. battery industry. It was great to see leadership from East Penn Manufacturing Co. and EnerSys in attendance representing our region. Through my USA Batteries Act, I’m fighting to make the U.S. battery industry more competitive by repealing a tax that gives foreign companies an unfair advantage.

We must work to secure our energy independence, which must remain Congress's top priority. Doing so means protecting the American people and our economy from shifting geopolitical threats. I was pleased to address this topic at the Washington Energy Summit this morning. Thank you to U.S. Energy Stream for the invitation.

Earlier this week, I met with members of the PA State Association of Township Supervisors. We had a good discussion about how Congress can support rural townships and address their needs. Thank you for your advocacy on behalf of our communities.

As the son of a former police officer, I will always stand with the brave men and women of law enforcement. I joined Speaker McCarthy at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial to honor those who lost their lives in the line of duty while protecting and serving our communities.

On this Military Spouse Appreciation Day, we honor the tremendous sacrifice of military spouses nationwide. We thank you for your selfless devotion to our nation and all you do to support our servicemembers.
