Weekly Update - 3.5.23

Good afternoon and welcome to our Weekend Update.

In Washington, the House Republican majority is digging in on the adverse actions the Chinese Communist Party continues to take related to the world, including the origins of COVID-19, economic harm, national security, and the influx of illegal drugs to this country via the southern border. I joined Newsmax’sdiscussion this morning on “Wake Up America” to discuss their actions. Click here or below to watch.

The American people deserve accountability and answers on the origins of COVID-19. House Republicans are holding various investigations, and the Financial Services Committee has a series of bills to make real corrective measures related to China. This week I joined Maria Bartiromo on “Mornings with Maria” on Fox Business to discuss. Click here or below to watch.

I joined Newsmax’s “Wake Up America” live in studio to discuss the upcoming race for the Republican nomination for President as well as the Biden Administration's Environmental Social and Governance Law (ESG). ESG is a terrible shame, as Biden is more about promoting the 'woke' policy agenda than caring about the American People. Click here or below to watch.

A Schuylkill County businessman from our district offered testimony in Washington, D.C., this week at my invitation before the House Committee on Small Business as part of a hearing entitled “From Nothing to Something: The Story of the American Dream.”

Roy Heim, founder and owner of Heim Construction Co. from Orwigsburg, joined three other small business owners from across the country to offer testimony at the hearing, which highlighted the challenges faced by small businesses, including inflation, workforce issues, regulatory burdens, supply chain issues, and access to capital. Below is a clip of our question and answer session from the hearing. It is always great to for our small businesses to bring their message to Washington! Click here or below to watch.

On Friday, I joined Rita Cosby's radio program in New York on WABC to discuss the Biden administration and our continued issues with China. Shelley and I were live in studio. Click here to listen.

This week, we were proud to present a $564,761.90 grant to the Newport Township Fire Department in Luzerne County via the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency's Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program. It was an honor to meet with members of the fire department and township officials to discuss the grant and what they do for the community every day.

With this grant, the department will purchase a new fire engine to replace its 45-year-old Mack Tele Squirt apparatus. The addition of the new engine will provide improved safety for volunteers and residents throughout Newport Township. The fire department will purchase a Pierce Saber Pumper. Congratulations, and thank you to the Newport Township Fire Department and all of our brave first responders for their dedicated service.

IN NEWS YOU WON’T HEAR IN THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA: So far this fiscal year, there have been over 1 million illegal border encounters, and over 350,000 “gotaways” who have escaped into the country.

For context, that is almost 300,000 more illegal border crossings than by this time last year, and last fiscal year was the worst year on record.

Within these staggering numbers are stories of immense human suffering. Biden claims there is a working “process” at the border, but according to a horrifying report from The New York Times, that process has collapsed. Tens of thousands of migrant children are being exploited and forced into de facto “indentured servitude.” Meanwhile, Biden’s “process” empowers smugglers and traffickers.

Yet, Biden has “full confidence” in HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra, who lost track of 85,000 children after responding to Biden’s demands to “move the children quickly out of shelters” by rolling back important vetting and safeguarding procedures.

The disaster at the border is a humanitarian and security catastrophe. We must secure the border. The House Republican majority is committed to holding the Biden administration’s feet to the fire on reimplementing policies that will secure the border and protect the American people. That will require continuing to build the wall and restoring the Remain in Mexico policy that was very effective in preventing illegal border crossings. It's time to remove politics from this situation and recommit ourselves to protecting the American people from the influx of illegal immigrants and illicit and deadly drugs.

Until next week, God bless, and see you soon,

Dan Meuser
