Weekly Update - 2.5.23

Good afternoon and welcome to our Weekend Update.

First, I want to address the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) surveillance balloon that flew over the United States. The Biden administration again showed a complete lack of leadership on this issue. The fact that the CCP is willing to conduct these spy missions so brazenly indicates how little they respect the Biden administration. This is the latest proof that Biden's foreign diplomacy of appeasement doesn't work. Many questions arise from this situation, and the GOP House Congress will demand answers. Thankfully, we did shoot down the balloon… right after it finished crossing our nation. Another national security blunder.

On a brighter note, I am pleased to announce that I have been named Chairman of the House Committee on Small Business Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax & Capital Access. I will be fighting for small businesses in Pennsylvania’s 9th Congressional District and across the country as they continue to contend with the threat of increased taxes and burdensome regulations. As chairman, I will be dedicated to focusing on issues vital to the success of Main Street America…. including access to capital, examining the impact of federal taxes and regulations and fostering an environment that allows our small businesses to thrive.

This week, DirecTV announced it was removing Newsmax from its channel lineup. As a result, over a million DirecTV subscribers in Pennsylvania can no longer access Newsmax through their TV. In addition, dozens and dozens of my constituents have written in or called my office to voice their concern and anger about DirecTV’s actions to cancel Newsmax. This is unacceptable.

Accordingly, I joined Newsmax’s “Spicer & Co.” to discuss DirecTV’s decision to remove the network from their lineup. I signed a letter asking DirecTV for an explanation. I will continue to fight for my constituents to access Newsmax and other forms of news.

Additionally, we touched on the crisis at the border. From my viewpoint, Secretary of Homeland Security Mayorkas has violated his duties as an officer of the United States and the law. Click here or below to watch my interview.

I conducted another interview with Newsmax’s “National Report” to discuss serving on the Foreign Affairs Committee and the importance of members being constructive and open when deliberating issues that arise with our allies and adversaries. We also again spoke about DirecTV’s decision to cut Newsmax. Click here or below to watch my interview.

We mentioned last week that I appeared on WVIA’s “Keystone Edition Reports” in an episode called “Meet your Congressmen.” We discussed veterans’ issues, healthcare, safety in federal prisons and the situation in Ukraine. Click here or below to watch this important dialogue.

This week, I received a model of the Boeing CH-47 Chinook helicopter. Mike Waclawski, director of legislative affairs at The Boeing Company, presented our office with the model. The Vertical Lift Factory in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania. builds the CH-47 Chinook and the V-22 Osprey. The CH-47 is the Army’s proven heavy-lift helicopter and is stationed across the country and flown by our allies around the globe. Closer to home, the 104th Aviation of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard operates CH-47 units out of Fort Indiantown Gap, which is in our 9th Congressional District.

IN NEWS YOU WON’T HEAR IN THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA: As I have done so nearly every week since the Biden administration purposely implemented a broken border agenda, I want to highlight again the chaos they have created.

Remember when Joe Biden said there was a working “process” at the border? It was apparent then it was a lie, but it was even worse than we thought.

Myth: There is a working “process” at the border.

Reality: Immigration officials were forced to release nearly 600,000 illegal immigrants into the country without a court date.

That doesn’t even include the “gotaways” or those in legal limbo with court dates. This is not a working “process.” This is Biden implementing an open border! It's up to the GOP to fight to investigate why and work to put pressure on the administration and the U.S. Senate to close the border.

This week, the House GOP continued to advance our Republican agenda and deliver on our Commitment to America.

We worked on a full week of bills designed to get the federal government back to work, including:

  • H.R. 139- The SHOW UP Act: would end teleworking for federal employees and require them to return to the office.

  • H.R. 382- Pandemic is Over Act: will officially end the COVID-19 public health emergency and President Biden’s abuse of certain emergency powers.

  • H.R. 497- Freedom for Health Care Workers Act: ends the Biden Administration’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate on certain workers at healthcare facilities that participate in the Medicare and Medicaid programs.

  • H.J. Res. 7- Relating to a national emergency declared by the President on March 13, 2020: would end the COVID-19 national emergency declared on March 13, 2020.

Additionally, we advanced a resolution to oppose socialism. As President Reagan said, “Socialism only works in two places: Heaven where they don't need it and hell where they already have it.” Click here to watch my remarks on the floor regarding the resolution.

Congratulations to the Eagles for advancing to the Super Bowl! I look forward to rooting them on to a Super Bowl victory next Sunday. Fly, Eagles, Fly!

Until then, God bless, and see you soon,

Dan Meuser
