On Wednesday afternoon, Congressman Dan Meuser (PA-09)met with officials in downtown Williamsport to discuss areas that need the most improvement.

Williamsport, which is famously known as the home of the Little League World Series, is the largest city in the Congressman’s congressional district. He tells me that the city has a lot of potential for growth.

“There’s a lot of great things, and we’re going to work on making it greater. From the airport to the levy, some other flood remediation initiatives, to cleaning up the blight. There is just progress to be made and we’re going to be part of it” says Meuser.

Meuser says that his top priority is to tackle the revitalization of the Williamsport Regional Airport. He says that a lot of money has already been put into the airport and his goal is to make it useful for constituents in the district.

“We’re going to work on getting an airline I am not going to overstate it and say its going to be easy, but we are going to do everything we possibly can to get an airline in there and turn it into a hub that people are satisfied with” said the Congressman.

Derek Slaughter serves as Mayor of Williamsport and says that he is grateful for the support from the Congressman and his team. The mayor mentioned to me that one other priority is to help get the levy recertified and reaccredited.

“The risk assessment will start any day now, by the Army Corps of Engineers, which will be about a year long process. Obviously, the levy protects billions of dollars in infrastructure, and we don’t want businesses and industry to leave Williamsport because of flood insurance or the lack of protection from the levy, so it is the number one priority in the city and in the county” said Mayor Slaughter.

Slaughter says in addition to the levy and airport, a new emergency response vehicle for the city is needed, since the one they have is older and they have to rely on neighboring counties to help.

In order to continue to serve constituents in Williamsport, the Meuser team will be opening a district office here, this coming Monday, January 23rd
