Meuser Calls for Elimination of School Property Taxes

LUZERNE COUNTY:  Dan Meuser, Republican candidate for United States Congress, is calling for the elimination of school property taxes and will author legislation to require states to abandon school property taxes within three years of passage.

“The issue of rising school property taxes is the single most concerning issue in the 9th Congressional District and I believe such taxes are unconstitutional and un-American, as no tax should have the power to leave you homeless,” Meuser said. “Under the Supremacy Clause of the Constitution no state tax can contradict those enumerated in the United States Constitution. Should I win election to the United States Congress, I will introduce legislation that will require the states to comply with the Constitution and stop the unfair practice of taxing hardworking families out of their home.

“Many state lawmakers representing areas in the 9th Congressional District have been fighting the battle to eliminate school property taxes for years because they recognize how important this issue is to hardworking families and seniors living on fixed incomes. I want to join them and bring that fight to Washington, D.C. No family should fear losing their home because of ever-increasing school property taxes.”
